Hello HIS Families! Welcome to the 2016-17 School Year!
We are very excited to open our membership drive for the 2016-17 school year. On the membership signup form you will have the opportunity to volunteer for PTA positions such as room parent, room parent assistant, committee chair and committee volunteer for several events we put on during the school year. The link to join will be noted below, but first let us tell you about some of the fun things we have coming up!
This Friday, August 26 at 8am is our Pastries with Parents event in Henderson Hall. We will be providing pastries, coffee and juice to parents and encourage everyone to attend so you can meet other parents and fellow PTA members. (Please note, this is a parents-only event.) All students will receive Popsicles at 2:45pm in the courtyard – we call this First Friday Popsicles.
Thursday, September 1 is our first Teacher Appreciation event. The PTA will provide a catered breakfast to our teachers.
Wednesday, September 14 is our next PTA General Membership Meeting at 8am in Henderson Hall. Please join us and learn more about what’s in store for this school year.
Thursday, September 15 is our first Room Parent Meeting at 8am in Henderson Hall. All Room Parents must attend.
Friday, September 23 is our first Family Fun Night at Ben & Jerry’s at the District at GVR. Make sure to RSVP on our Facebook event page: Ben & Jerry’s Family Fun Night (6-9pm)
Our full PTA event calendar is published here and you can instantly download all of the events directly to your phone/tablet/computer calendar with the click of a button!
We have some great committees again this year, but one we are particularly excited about is our Philanthropy Committee. HIS PTA has selected Project 150 as our charity partner for this school year. Project 150 is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization whose mission is to offer support and services to Las Vegas’ homeless teens to enable and encourage them to stay in high school through graduation, as well as help prepare them to be successful in life. Since Henderson International School is a college preparatory school, we believe Project 150 is the perfect choice to be the recipient of our philanthropy efforts that will include year-round collection barrels placed throughout school property for new and gently used clothing, as well as monthly donation drives for brand-new “necessities” such as socks, underwear, back packs and school supplies. Read more about this initiative here.
Last but not least, we encourage you to sign up to join our PTA. We have a goal of 100% membership this school year! Please know that joining the PTA doesn’t mean you are volunteering to help at any of our functions – those signup lists are managed separately. We recognize that there are parents who have busy schedules and cannot commit to volunteering – and THAT’S OK! We would just like to ask you to join the PTA so that your membership dues go towards funding the FUN events that the PTA puts on. And for those parents that DO want to be more involved, we have several committees, and you are encouraged to sign up for one… or more!
Henderson International School’s PTA membership signup is managed online via MemberPlanet. Below are instructions on how to join the HIS PTA.
- Visit the following link to sign up and pay the membership dues: https://www.memberplanet.com/s/hendersoninternationalpta/dues2016-17
- After you sign up, within 24 hours you will receive an email how to activate your MemberPlanet account so that you receive PTA communications via email and/or text.
- Make sure to “like” us on Facebook and check the events tab – RSVP for the events you want to attend so that you receive reminders.
- With each 2016-17 individual or family membership signup, the PTA will provide one branded lunch tote per HIS student in that family. Additional lunch totes may be purchased for your other children (non-HIS students) on the membership form. Lunch totes will be distributed in mid-late September. We’ll be sure to give you a heads up!
We hope to see you at a PTA-sponsored event soon!
Warmest Wishes for a wonderful school year!
